ICANN - solve your domain names issues

Add to Delicious Digg this links to this post -

Just got a big issue to solve.

Jazar.net has been registered with Linkstream.net . Linkstream.net is a hosting provider which kept quite a good record when I signed up with them last year.

Unfortunately, it seems that everybody there has decided to go on holiday, and for a long long time:

  • - they don't answer emails anymore -
  • - their ticket system has expired -
  • - downtime is close to 30%! -

very scary!

I have until December to find out how to transfer my domain name to a new host, or bye bye Jazar. Here we go :

1) Do a whois to find out who Jazar has registered the domain name with - registrar companies (an advice: don't do what I did! don't register your domain name with your hosting company, or you take the risk to go through a lot of hassle, as illustrated here - go directly to a registrar (http://www.000domains.com for instance) and then ask them to point your domain name to your host - choose always the safe side - don't forget that your email addresses are linked to the domain name too!)

=> I did a whois on www.jazar.net, and found out that Linkstream.net had registered Jazar.net with 000domains.com. Great, now you contact them to let them know that you are not happy at all, really not happy at all with this linkstream.net!

2)Contact the registrar directly to complain about your hosting company.
Here is what they replied (within 1 hour):

In order to make any changes (nameserver change, ownership change) to
the domain record using our Account Manager, you need to know the
username/password for a domain name. The login information can only be
emailed to the contact email address on the record.

Please note that the person displayed in the domain record as
owner/admin is considered to be the owner/admin of a domain name.
Unfortunately there is not a way for us to make a change in the domain
record without the authorization of the person in the record, or by
UDRP decision, or by court order.

According to our records, Linkstream Technologies, LLC
is listed as the owner/admin of JAZAR.NET. The fastest way to solve
this issue is to contact Linkstream Technologies, LLC
directly. If that person/company is not cooperating and if you have a
claim on the domain name through a trademark or copyright, you can file
a dispute through Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) of ICANN.
You can find more info about this at http://www.icann.org/udrp

For any other type of dispute, you can file a law suit against that
person in a court that has jurisdiction.

We, as the registrar, cannot be part of the disputes. However, when we
are notified of a UDRP dispute, or a law suit, we will place the domain
in locked status until a decision is reached. If the decision is in
favor the Complainant, then we can make the ownership transfer.

Since contact information for linkstream.net is invalid (the phone
number is incorrect) I will send a warning for correction of domain
record. As indicated in the registration agreement, if no action is
taken in 15 days, we will shutdown linkstream.net.

Great! Ok, let's see the ICANN website.

3)
I have just sent an email to them explaining what the situation was ... Let's see their response tomorrow ...

SEO for Dummies

Add to Delicious Digg this links to this post -

The face of noblet
Mister charles noblet is not on internet. If you do a search for his name, you don't find any results related to him - Let's do a little SEO workshop to make sure that if you type even noblet, his site comes first!

1) Write an article on a remote site, using the combination of keywords you want to rank for.
2) Make sure that the keywords are NOT in the title (you don't want this page to rank better than your target page...
3) Make sure that the target page has got the keyword in the title and they are displayed at least once on the page (the google bomb campaign which made rank number 1 the Geoges Bush website for "miserable failure" shows that you don't need to have the keywords on the landing page, but it doesn't cost to have them anyway).

That's it! type " charles noblet" in google in a few weeks time, and his site should come first (or I better stop doing web marketing!)

Motorola more and more trendy

Add to Delicious Digg this links to this post -

Just got a glimpse at the new Motorola phone - impressed :

razor phone

It’s a mere 14mm thick, with a casing made mostly of titanium and pretty much everything else you hope for in a handset this thin, like a built-in digital camera, Bluetooth, a 4,096 color external LCD, and a 262,000 color main LCD. Great design but how user-friendly is the menu-structure of this phone....

new motorola phone

I'll need to have it in my hands and to play a little bit with it to answer this question .. but given the hefty price, I am not going to buy it just to see if Motorola has at last found a way to make the navigation of their phone a little bit more intuitive.

bloody "search the web" toolbar

Add to Delicious Digg this links to this post -

Spent 4 hours today to remove adwares from my PC - I woke up this morning, started the PC - there were ads all over the place - don't rely on Norton for the hardwares, it is useless ..

Download first Bazooka, the only solution I am afraid to remove most of the adwares - you messed with your PC - you have to get your hands dirty and remove manually all the registry entries and malicious dlls fro your disk.

Once this is done, you may still have bad surprise, such as this bloddy " search the web " tool bar!!

Just do a search in google for " Begin2search ", and you will find the solutions. What amazes me is that some advise to remove thousands of keys, while only 2 have to be removed to fix the problem :
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\clsid\{52fe5233-367c-4efb-bdd7-0be4d212c107}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\internet explorer\toolbar\{52fe5233-367c-4efb-bdd7-0be4d212c107}

winpatrol

Once you have fixed that, download Winpatrol, and make sure that next time you meet a newby, tell him :

"You need two softwares for you PC before you start browsing internet :

  • Norton (Virus prevention tool)
  • Winpatrol (Adware prevention tool)

Note: No, I am not a winpatrol affilate, I am just so pissed off to have spent half a day fixing this!!

connecting business people ...

Add to Delicious Digg this links to this post -

Just went to my first networking event yesterday, organised by Linkedin

It was great stuff :
1) The "Round Robin"
Everybody introduces himself to the rest of delegates - 10 seconds maximum - a good opportunity to let the "world" know what your company does

2) Presentation from Thomas Power, Managing Director of BRE Networking
He gave 3 good tips, and 3 tools to start networking - let me remember -

  • you are not here to sell, but to meet people
  • listen to people carefully and make sure that they feel like they are the only person you are interested in when you get a chance to talk to them.
  • ...mmmh, cannot rember the rest he said!

3) Presentation from Thomas Power
Chairman of Ecademy, I prefered this guy. His moto : networking is "connecting business people", and explained his concept of good network = alway second guy. Basically, to build your network, try to connect people together : by creating a match between two people, you get three new connections back to you.

Instead of going toward people saying : what can you do for me, ask them instead what they are looking for, and try to provide the good match. If you connect people, people witl come back to you, more and more, like a magnet, and your network will expand dramatically.
4) Dinner and networking
We then left the room, and headed up to the dinner room, where everybody got a chance to start using their new "networking skills", and talk to people who can potentially change their life ...

People in Damascus

Add to Delicious Digg this links to this post -

The variety of characters you can see strolling the narrow streets of damascus is one of the attraction of the old town.

Go first to the Souk, and watch out for contrasts, such as women fully covered by a black cloak looking with interest at very suggestive and sexy underwears ...

Then, stop at a bar to smoke the narguile, while watching the crowd passing by.

Finally, go for a little walk, taking care of not bouncing in the cyclists racing the streets.

Damascus - Jabri House

Add to Delicious Digg this links to this post -

A lunch or dinner at jabri house is worth especially for the location: it's inside one of the oldest houses in the old city of Damascus (built in 1737).

Jabri House in Damascus

You can stop there and enjoy their delicious mezze, while listening to a musician playing luth. If you need to check your emails, you have an internet cafe available.

There are no prices on the menu - make sure that they don't charge you too much - a decent mezze & main course should not cost you more than £1.50.

I jst come back from syria, it was fantastic! We have spent 1 day in damascus, and I have now the impression to have spent 1 week there!

Let's start with the omayyad mosque. This is the most outstanding monuments of Damascus. The mosaic which decorate the walls of the mosque are meant to be the most stunning mosaics in the world. At least they are the most stuning I have ever seen so far!

If you are in short, make sure you go through the clothes room first, and cover yourself with the cloak they provide before entering the mosque.

The atmosphere is magical, just sit inside, take a nap if you are tired, and enjoy the peace of the place.

google calculation & littlehampton

Add to Delicious Digg this links to this post -

Just read this, about google IPO:

The amount of the $2.7 billion offering contains a "subtlety: The exact offering, $2,718,281,828, is the product of "e" and $1 billion, where "e" is the base of the natural logarithm.

The author concluded that even if the two friends have now become world's fortune 500 something, they are still geeks... well, they are bloody optimistics too - it mean that they expect their profit to increase exponentially too ...

the only nice thing in littlehampton
Optimistic I was when we all moved to littlehampton this week-end. Well, actually nobody knew where we were going : we just decided to head down to the south to make the best out of the shining sun, looking for a beach with sand - JS suggested that we should go to littlehampton - there was a yellow area on the map - probably meaning sand ....

We eventually spent the afternoon running statistics:
10% of space available
20% of petrol in the sea
30% of people who have brought half of their house with them
Kids fighting with their parents 40% of the time
50% of people with tattoos (including grannies, kids and babies)
Kids fighting with their parents 60% of the time
70% of overweight parents
80% of overweight kids
90% who don't move a single muscle the whole afternoon
100% laugh

I thought I should display this photo I took just before we left. It just summarize the day : The siren from LittleHampton
