found a very nice story about how a press release can get you ranked above #1 in google & yahoo. Yep, you have read, above #1 ....

During the last US elections, someone found out that www.georgewbush.com was viewable only by americans (the site was using a cloaking technic which enabled their website to ONLY be viewable by those people living in the United States.... wonder why?).

what did he do: created a replica of the site, and made it available to everybody - once the site was up and running (2 hours to set up the site scraper ... ) and the guy was writing a press release about it. Obviously, the press release was targetting the keyword phrase "George Bush", the most popular phrase then!!! And the guy released his press release, which made it on the top of Google & Yahoo for the keywords "George Bush" ... I let you imagine the traffic the guy got from this action!!
