Lighboxes and galleries - state of the art

Great summary of different scripts one can use to add galleries on a site on smashing magazine

Lot of work has be carried out by designers to manage galleries through CSS - but a bit of javascript enhanced significantly the experience, specially if you want to add some meta data (tags, descriptions, etc .. )

In my opinion, thickbox, which uses Jquery framework, is probably the best selection.
